What Is CAQH ProView, and Why Does Every Payer Ask for It?

If you have ever joined an insurance network, you have almost certainly been asked for your CAQH number. CAQH ProView is an online provider data repository operated by the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH). Most health plans in the United States use it as a single, shared source of the demographic, education, licensure, and work-history information they need to credential a provider.

Why payers rely on it

Before CAQH ProView, every health plan collected the same provider information on its own paper application. Providers re-entered identical data dozens of times, and plans re-keyed it by hand. CAQH ProView centralizes that data so a provider maintains one profile and authorizes individual plans to access it.

What you have to keep current

A CAQH profile is not "set and forget." Providers must attest to the accuracy of their data at least every 120 days, and they must keep documents such as their state license, DEA registration, and malpractice insurance face sheet current. An out-of-date or unattested profile is one of the most common reasons a credentialing file stalls.
