IMLC (Interstate Medical Licensure Compact)
An expedited pathway that lets eligible physicians obtain medical licenses in multiple participating states.
The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, or IMLC, is an agreement among participating states that streamlines how qualified physicians become licensed across multiple jurisdictions. Rather than completing a full, separate application in each state, an eligible physician designates a state of principal license and can then more quickly secure licenses elsewhere in the compact. This shortens the timeline for multi-state and telehealth practice, though each license is still issued and regulated by the individual state medical board. A license obtained this way is one form of compact license.
