License Verification
Confirming directly with the issuing board that a professional license is active and free of restrictions.
License verification is the step of checking with the licensing authority itself to confirm that a clinician's credential is current, valid, and unencumbered by sanctions or limitations. Rather than relying on a copy supplied by the provider, the verifier goes straight to the source, typically the state medical board, so the information cannot be altered or out of date. This makes it a foundational element of primary source verification within the broader credentialing process.
