Malpractice Insurance
Professional liability coverage carried by providers, whose certificate or face sheet is a standard document collected during credentialing.
Malpractice insurance, also called professional liability coverage, protects a provider against claims arising from alleged negligence or errors in patient care. During credentialing, organizations collect proof of active coverage, usually a certificate of insurance or face sheet showing the policy's limits and effective dates. Verifying that coverage meets minimum required limits is a routine credentialing step, and providers changing carriers may also need tail coverage to address prior claims.
