Type 2 NPI
The National Provider Identifier issued to an organization or group, such as a clinic, hospital, or practice entity.
A Type 2 NPI is the National Provider Identifier assigned to an organizational healthcare entity rather than an individual, covering groups such as practices, clinics, hospitals, and supplier organizations. Unlike a Type 1 NPI that belongs to one person, a Type 2 number represents the business and is typically tied to the group's billing Tax ID. Larger organizations may hold several Type 2 numbers for distinct legal subparts, all registered through NPPES.
