Type 1 NPI
The National Provider Identifier issued to an individual healthcare provider, such as a physician or nurse practitioner.
A Type 1 NPI is the ten-digit National Provider Identifier assigned to a single human clinician and stays with that individual throughout their career, regardless of where they practice. It is distinct from a Type 2 NPI, which identifies an organization or group rather than a person. Individuals apply for and manage their Type 1 number through NPPES, the federal registry that issues and maintains NPI records.
