Sanctions screening is the practice of regularly checking providers and staff against exclusion and sanction lists to confirm they are eligible to participate in federal healthcare programs. It typically covers the OIG LEIE, the federal SAM exclusion records, and applicable state Medicaid exclusion databases. Because a provider's status can change at any time, many organizations screen on a continuous or monthly basis rather than only at hire, aligning with continuous query practices.
